Councill opened a normal school in 1875 — a school built to make teachers. The town around it didn't have a name yet, so it took the school's. That's backwards from how it usually runs. Everywhere else the college gets named for the place. Up on the Hill, the place got named for the college. Say you went to Normal and the people who know, know.
